The Music Studio of Warrensburg and Phoenix Productions
2019 Theatre Under the Stars!
Thank you Warrensburg for coming out and supporting our 2018 season at Theatre Under the Stars! Our summer season closed the weekend of June 29-30. Check back later this summer to find out about our exciting line up of shows for the 2019 season of Theatre Under the Stars!!! We will also post photos from our season on this page after the season closes…
Theatre Under the Stars has ended it’s relationship with the Johnson County Historical Society. We thank them for allowing us to use their grounds these past two summers and regret that we will not be returning. We are excited about a new performance venue that we are working on for 2019 that will provide a better experience for our audiences, be more centrally located, and allow us to have a long-term solution!
2019 Shows Have Been Selected!
Thanks to members of our 2018 casts who took time out of their lives to participate in a script reading group as well as the input from our audiences this past summer, we identified six shows that became our finalists for the 2019 production season.
We listened to the feedback from our cast members, production team, and parents after the season closed. As a result, we have decided to take a break from The Sound of Music in 2019 and plan to bring it back again in 2020. In addition, we are going to spread out our season over a greater number of weeks and give the kids time off between productions in favor of inviting performing groups from outside our area to visit and perform!
We are excited to announce our 2019 Season which will include…
Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr. (June 7-8, 14-15)
It’s 1922 in New York City, and a young Millie Dillmount has just moved to the Big Apple in search of a new life. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. Millie’s wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage, and the man she actually falls in love with doesn’t have a dime to his name – or so he tells her. What’s a small town girl to do?
Filled with fun flappers, dashing leading men and a villainess audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie JR. is a high-spirited musical romp that has all of New York dancing the Charleston!
Madagascar: A Musical Adventure, Jr. (June 28-29, July 5-6)
Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto your stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime.
Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York’s Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends – Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo – have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape – with the help of some prodigious penguins – to explore the world.
Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.
With these lovable characters, adventure galore and an upbeat score, Madagascar JR. we have no doubt that you will want to “Move It, Move It!”
Curtain time for Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr will be at 7:30 pm so children of all ages can “move it, move it” and not be late for bedtime!!!
Ticketing and Show Information
Curtain time each night is dusk or as early as stage lighting is effective. In general we strive to start the show each evening by 8:45 p.m. Most shows run approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes with intermission. NOTE: Due to the show’s appeal to younger children, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr will start at 7:30 pm.
Tickets are available in advance from any cast member, online at www.tututix.com/tmsow, or at the theatre. Tickets for all shows are $5.00 per person. Children under the age of 10, $3.00 per person. Tickets purchased at the theatre have a $2.00 surcharge. Sales tax is included in the price of all tickets.
Being an outdoor theatre, we are subject to the whims of Mother Nature. In the event of rain-out, tickets will be honored at any other show of your choosing during the summer season. Tune into 1450 KOKO for rain-out information when weather threatens the area. Start time may be delayed up to 30 minutes if storms are expected to be clear of the area by that time. All decisions to delay, postpone, or cancel a performance are made with the safety of our cast and crew members as our priority.
Tickets are non-refundable but may be exchanged for another performance by bringing them to the ticket kiosk prior to any show.
